Safety/Parking Improvements

Construction Header

Safety remains the number one priority for Franklin Regional. This page explains the safety enhancements that will be a part of the facilities included in the Elementary Campus Project. The architectural rendering below allows you to view where the outdoor recreational areas, bus, and parent drop off vehicle pathways and natural barriers that exist as a result of the new design.

Sloan building footprint

Franklin Regional places the safety of students and staff at the top of the priority list. The new comprehensive elementary campus emphasizes several safety improvements with emphasis on the separation of vehicle traffic and buses, an improved method for parent/student drop-off and pick-up, and secure school day community building entry access points. Improvements to the existing Sloan campus will result in significant safety improvements on the main campus with regards to traffic flow and pedestrian traffic while increasing the available parking on both campuses. Should an emergency occur in one building, students and staff would be evacuated, using the District's comprehensive emergency and evacuation plans (MERP), to the other building where they would safely shelter in place or be transported by buses to the District's main campus. The Murrysville Police Department is conveniently located directly across the road from the Elementary Campus.

Planned safety improvement for the two schools include:

  • Separate areas for bus and parent drop off
  • Access roads around the campus for emergency vehicles
  • Natural barriers providing privacy from traffic and passersby for children on the playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces.
  • During an emergency, students can be evacuated from one school and housed in the other building
  • New public entrances designed to improve school security, while still providing appropriate access.
  • Modern security technologies to enhance student safety.
  • Police Department is 148 feet from both schools, which reduces first responder time to only seconds.
  • School Zone designations for Crowfoot and Sardis Roads.
  • Significant off-street queuing for cars and ample parking adjacent to both schools.
  • Improved landscaping buffers along streets and near neighboring properties.
