Student Transitions

Franklin Regional School District strives to facilitate effective transitions for its students into the District and when matriculating from school to school.

The District has a robust transition program for students who are entering Kindergarten.  The Kindergarten transition program includes multiple opportunities for students and their families to engage with members of the Franklin Regional School District.  A Transition Team comprised of K-12 teachers, preschool teachers, parents, and community members guides the Kindergarten transition program.  Ms. Tina Gillen, principal of Newlonsburg Elementary, facilitates the Kindergarten Transition Team.

The District also works to transition students from their elementary schools to Franklin Regional Middle School.  The Middle School transition program also includes multiple opportunities for students and their families to engage with the Middle School team.  Students attend a “Step-Up” day at the end of their 5th grade year to visit the Middle School and meet the teachers.

Transitioning from the Middle School to Franklin Regional Senior High also includes multiple opportunities for students and their families to engage with the staff and learn about the program.  Students participate in a “Step-Up” day at the end of their 8th grade year and students and their families are invited to a freshman picnic in the summer before the school year starts.

Franklin Regional School District realizes that students who are transition from its classrooms to colleges and careers also need support.  The District has multiple transition activities to support students and their families as they prepare to leave the District and pursue future goals.  Activities include financial aid nights, career fairs, and visits from representatives from higher education.
