Office of the Superintendent

Dr. Gennaro Piraino

In reflecting on my time in the Franklin Regional School District, I have found a school community that truly embodies our mission statement, "We, the Franklin Regional School community, strive for excellence, learning, achievement, and citizenship in all we do."  Last year, our organization adopted five Foundational Planks that serve as a guide in our pursuit of our work toward our collective mission and vision.

  1. A safe and healthy educational environment by serving as effective stewards of all district resources and capital assets
  2. A world-class educational system that develops college and career-ready students
  3. Improved performance and growth levels in all areas - academic, artistic, and athletic
  4. Outstanding customer service, family partnerships, stakeholder relationships, and community engagement through communication that is professional, responsive, clear, and timely
  5. Fiscal integrity, efficiency, and governance effectiveness in all operational areas

Due to this shared-commitment to excellence, learning, achievement, and citizenship, I am excited to work hand-in-hand with you to continue our journey toward creating a world-class educational system and join you in celebrating our collective successes.

As Superintendent, I share in the community’s excitement, as we celebrate Franklin Regional High School being recognized by Newsweek as one of the 500 Best High Schools in America.   Our national ranking of 134th placed us fifth among the 21 Pennsylvania high schools attaining this prestigious honor.  Congratulations to our students, staff, administration, and entire school community on this impressive accomplishment!

The Franklin Regional School District has committed to honoring our rich tradition of academic excellence, while fostering a world-class educational system that focuses on developing college and career-ready students.   Regardless of whether a student plans to attain a graduate level degree, attend a four-year college, earn an associate’s degree, or delve right into the world of work, every student in the Franklin Regional School District will have exposure to high-quality career-centered educational programs.

Whether our students are participating in the SeaPerch Challenge sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, engaging in an internship or apprenticeship, or earning college credits through Westmoreland County Community College or LaRoche College, or attending one of two Career and Technical Schools serving our District, Franklin Regional students are applying their academic knowledge, skills, and experiences to solve real-world problems, explore careers of interest, and attain credentials that will promote success in all of their future endeavors.

We cannot accomplish this type of educational programming alone.   Investing in these programs and partnerships will ultimately pay a return on the overall investment much greater than the cost of any resource or effort expended.  Through the cooperation of school districts, higher education, governmental agencies, and business, we are building comprehensive educational programs that ensure the career success of students and foster a prosperous environment for business, industry, health care, and human services.

Please join me in also recognizing and thanking our local taxpayers, educational partners, and entire school community, who selflessly support our students and staff as they strive for excellence, learning, achievement, and citizenship in all that they do!  Without their unwavering commitment to providing a world-class educational experience for our students, Franklin Regional’s tradition of academic, artistic, and athletic excellence would not be possible.
