Franklin Regional Athletics
Sports Medicine Department
Franklin Regional, in conjunction with AHN (Allegheny
Health Network) Sports Medicine, provides comprehensive care for all of
its student athletes. This care includes two licensed athletic trainers
to be present at Franklin Regional for all in-season practices and home
events as designated by the contract. Licensed athletic trainers are
health care professionals who work under the direction of physicians to
optimize the activity and participation of clients and patients. The
scope of athletic training includes: prevention, diagnosis, and
intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions
involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. The
athletic trainer may provide pre-practice taping and wrapping,
evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries, on-field/court coverage and
first aid, and post-practice assessments.
At Franklin Regional, we make every attempt to provide the
finest health care to all student athletes. To aid in this care,
parents are encouraged to communicate directly with a coach or the
athletic trainer, if an athlete sustains an injury. This direct
communication can only benefit in the student athlete’s recovery from an
injury. Injuries are common with participation in athletics. With
proper communication, and timely intervention, most injuries can be managed
within the athletic training room. If the management of an injury
requires a more comprehensive referral, we can aid the student
athlete/family through the process.
Allegheny Health Network now offers same day appointments with specialists if you call before 11 am.
